We like the Husqvarna Z254 zero turn ride on mower for a number of reasons, and if you have a pretty good sized lawn to take care of we think you will too.

First off, it really does start up first turn of the key every time, and it’s got the power and the speed to get the job done really quick, while giving a fantastic and professional looking cut too. It powers through long, tough grass, even when it’s wet, without making a big song and dance about it.

It’s also easy to get used to, and once you have it’s easy and comfortable to use. The seat is great, it’s a 15″ high-back seat which gives you great back support, even when you’re mowing rougher ground at top speed.

This is a really solidly built riding mower with a brilliant engine and deck and should give you many years of quality mowing.

Even though the zero turn feature of this mower does let you mow in and out of hard to reach spots, we wouldn’t recommend this mower if you have a smaller lawn or yard as it is quite a big machine.

Another thing we should mention is that although this mower is pretty good for mowing hills and inclines, it does seem to handle some hills better than others, although this is something that we feel could probably be overcome with practice.

Unlike hydrostatic transmissions which use hydraulic fluids for power transfer, automatic transmissions use belts to automatically adjust speed according to demand, providing smooth and seamless acceleration and power.

The automatic choke on this riding mower makes starting up really easy. All you need to do is turn the key and it fires up first time, that’s it…you’re away.

Another feature of this lawn tractor mower that we think really makes a difference is the Air-Induction Mowing Technology. This sucks air from the top, and the bottom of the cutting deck. The result of this is that grass-lift is significantly improved which in turn delivers a far superior cut than you will get with a mower that doesn’t have it.

The deck cutting height adjustment lever is mounted on the fender making it really easy to adjust the blade height without getting out of your seat, plus it’s also spring assisted allowing you to change between the 6 different cutting heights effortlessly.

The deck itself is a very generous 54″ wide fabricated steel deck with 3 high-performance blades which can be adjusted to 13 different cutting heights ranging from 1.5″ to 4.0″. This engine is designed to run cleaner and cooler during heavy duty mowing and haulage work, while giving you more power for less fuel consumption and with lower emissions. 

To give you maximum driving control during mowing, speed and direction are controlled by a foot pedal operated hydrostatic transmission system which regulates your speed as you require for almost automobile-like acceleration, and is also longer lasting than automatic and manual transmissions, while at the same time being virtually maintenance free.

This lawn tractor mower also has a cruise control facility which works pretty well at allowing you to maintain a steady speed when mowing rough and uneven ground, which can actually reduce time spent mowing difficult areas for a more enjoyable and stress free mowing experience.

The Husqvarna YTH24V48 Briggs & Stratton Hydrostatic Riding Mower also features an electric cutting deck engagement system which allows easy engagement of the cutting blades by simply pulling the knob on the control panel. The cutting deck is a 48″ reinforced stamped deck constructed from 13-gauge stamped steel. It has 4 anti-scalp wheels to prevent the blades from slicing chunks out of uneven lawns, plus air induction technology which sucks in air at the top and bottom of the deck giving improved grass-lift for a superior cut.

You also get a well padded high-back seat and a roomy cockpit which give you really good back support for surprisingly comfortable mowing, even at top speed and on uneven ground. For even more comfort, you can buy padded armrests separately.

We are quite impressed with this lawn tractor on the whole and if you’re looking for a decent average size mower to mow an average size lawn or larger, we think you will be too.

The hydrostatic transmission on this Husqvarna mower is the Hydro-Gear ZT3100 commercial grade transmission system which gives you higher ground speeds along with incredibly smooth performance, and allows you to mow over  4 acres per hour at speeds of up to 8.5 mph without having to let go of the steering levers and interrupting your mowing to change gears.

The oversized 2″ X 3″ tube chassis on the MZ54 works very well alongside the 13″ x 6.5″ front tires and the 22″ x 10″ rear tires to make it incredibly strong while improving the quality of your ride on all types of terrain.

The Husqvarna Z248F 48″ 21.5 HP Kawasaki Hydrostatic Zero Turn Riding Mower is driven by a smooth, quiet and efficient  V-twin 4-cycle, vertical shaft  Kawasaki FR651V 21.5HP engine which delivers commercial grade power with reliable starting, along with the same strength and durability you would find in a commercial mower.

The engines lightweight design also gives smoother power output with much improved fuel economy making this mower incredibly efficient, and economical to use.

This mower also features a hydrostatic transmission which doesn’t require any maintenance and yet delivers an enormous amount of torque and power, giving you worry-free performance and allowing you to mow on hills, in forward or reverse and at any speed without having to change gears manually.

The cutting deck on the Husqvarna Z248F is a 48″ welded 10-gauge steel construction which also has extra welded reinforcement strips giving it maximum strength and durability, along with a spring assisted lifting system for ease of use.

The cutting deck also features ClearCut™ technology which is designed for superior air flow around the top and bottom of the deck, which provides the level of grass lift needed for a professional cut with greatly reduced rowing and clumping.

This zero turn riding mower’s triple blade cutting system also feature 6 different cutting heights, ranging from 1.5″ to 4″, plus the smaller deck width gives far greater maneuverability when mowing in those hard to reach tighter areas.

If riding comfort is an issue for you, the 15″ high-back sprung seat on this mower makes mowing on uneven ground, even at the maximum speed of 6.5 mph, pretty comfortable, and the easy to reach and operate controls along with the non-slip foot area make the Z248F pretty easy and safe to use too.

The only downside we could find with this mower is that is doesn’t come with either a bagging attachment, or a mulching kit. Having said that, the mower does discharge clippings fairly evenly, and it does come with a deck wash-out port for easy cleaning after mowing.

Performance-wise, this mower starts up easily, it runs pretty smooth and quiet and is really easy to control even when running at top speed. It’s a decent mower for hills, gives a really nice cut, and just as importantly, it’s really comfortable to use-definitely no bone-shaker.

Customer Feedback…

As the Husqvarna Z248F is a pretty new product which hasn’t been on the market for very long, at the time of putting this page together for you, it only has 1 customer review on Amazon.com, where it has an average feedback score of just 1 out of 5 stars-which is pretty poor we agree.

The reason for this low rating seems to be due to the cutting deck cracking during use, twice, and Husqvarna refusing to replace it a second time.

There could be any number of reasons for the deck cracking, from faulty design and/or construction, to misuse by the owner, and anything in between. We would suggest either keeping an eye out for further reviews on this particular mower to see if this is a consistent problem, or better still trying it out for yourself and sending it back if you experience the same problem.

We also looked on the Husqvarna website where there is only 1 review so far, and the reviewer there gives it full marks and is very happy with it.

Well, as for being stylish, we have to agree that this particular machine does look pretty good. Then again looks aren’t everything, so let’s take a look at the other stuff.

The engine on the Husqvarna Z254F zero turn riding mower is a 23 HP Kawasaki FR691V, which is known for its incredible durability, smooth running and also being quieter than other riding mower engines, as well as being reliable, efficient, and economical.

The hydrostatic transmission allows you to accelerate and decelerate, according to mowing conditions without having to bother with preset gears, leaving you to concentrate on the actual mowing, while still delivering huge amounts of power and torque, plus it’s maintenance free too which can be a great time and money saver.

The cutting deck on this Husqvarna zero turn mower is a generous 54″ wide welded deck. Being welded makes it stronger than a stamped deck and also gives a superior cut, while the width of the deck allows you to mow more with less passes. The deck features 3 high-performance cutting blades and has 6 different cutting height positions ranging from 1.5″ through to 4.0″ which you set manually, as required via a lever.

There are also anti-scalp wheels which allow the deck to be raised and lowered safely without chewing up your lawn, and without you having to stop mowing, plus the ClearCut deck feature gives greatly improved airflow to the top and bottom of the deck which improves grass lift for a consistently excellent cut.

The ergonomically designed control panel on the Husqvarna Z254F soon has mowing feeling like second nature, while the anti-slip foot area is a pretty good safety feature which allows you to mow confidently from the outset.

Mastering the maneuverability of the Z254F takes a little bit of getting used to at first, as with all zero turn mowers, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy to manage and drives and steers really well. The Husqvarna Z254F combines comfort, performance and style with ease of use and effortless parking up when you’ve finished mowing. It cuts clippings nice and fine and scatters them evenly so there are no piles or clumps to contend with after mowing, leaving you with a neat and evenly cut lawn.

Maintenance and cleaning are made really easy. The Z254F comes with a drain hose for when you need to change the oil and all parts of the engine are really easy to get to should you require, plus the deck and wheel spindles have grease fittings, and there’s also a built in hour meter that tells you when you need to service the mower to help keep it performing at its peak.

This Husqvarna riding mower also comes complete with pre-drilled holes for mounting a hitch for accessories and attachments, a removable foot pan so you can easily clean the spindles, pulleys and belts, and a deck wash out port.

We found the Husqvarna YTH20K42 riding lawn tractor to be a solidly built riding mower which is highly maneuverable and easy to store due to its compact design. It has a 42″ stamped cutting deck, which features 4 anti-scalp wheels, which do a very good job of preventing your lawn from being chewed up during turning, has a reinforced construction of heavy flat-stock steel.

This construction provides the 2 blade leading cutting edge and trim side some seriously improved strength and durability, and Husqvarna themselves actually call this feature “Armor Protection” and even back it up with a 10 year warranty.

The 6-position cutting deck also has a fender mounted manual belt engagement system which allows you to lower the cutting deck smoothly and gradually, unlike with an electric engagement system which can be pretty abrupt, causing damage to parts, and can also cause the belt drive to jump off.

One pretty impressive feature of this lawn tractor is its Air Induction Mowing Technology System which increases the air flow through and around the cutting deck by sucking clean air from the top and bottom of the deck which increases grass lift for a really great cut, while at the same time cutting down on any clumping for an even discharge of clippings.

This mowers 20HP Kohler 7000 Series V-Twin OHV Engine runs very smoothly and is also much quieter than you probably think when in use. It has a top forward speed of 5.2 mph, and you can also mow in reverse at a top speed of 2.9 mph, and has a ‘smart-choke’ for easy starting whatever the temperature, plus a dual adjustable seal air filter to keep dirt and debris from clogging up the engine.
