The Troy-Bilt riding lawn mower, or TB30, is delivered 99% fully assembled, the rest you will need to either do yourself, which is pretty easy and straight forward as easy to follow instructions are included, and you can be up and running in just a couple of hours.
You could always pay someone to put it together for you, but when it’s just a matter of fitting the steering wheel and seat, attaching the rear hitch and the shroud, then connecting the battery and filling the tank with gas, it would be far quicker, easier, and more cost effective to just do it yourself.
Once your mower is full assembled, what you have is a solid and well constructed, entry-level lawn tractor mower which is perfect for flat landscapes, and which can also handle slight hills, although we should point out that this mower is designed primarily for use on level ground.
This Troy Bilt riding mower is driven by a powerful, 6-speed, 382cc single-cylinder OHV engine which is built for durability and clean performance, and zips up to top forward speed of 4.5 mph. It features a key-start ignition and auto-choke for easy and reliable start up, and also has cast iron cylinder sleeves for extended engine life.
Troy-Bilt designed this mower for use on smaller yards and lawns which larger mowers would have difficulty managing, as well as for use on large and level terrain. With its 18-inch turning radius and 13.5″ front wheels and 16.5″ rear wheels the TB30 accomplishes both objectives pretty well indeed.
The TB30 is very easy to use. It starts up straight away on the first turn of the key virtually every time. The seat is surprisingly comfortable even at full throttle and there is also plenty of leg room making it a good choice for taller users. However, the brake/clutch combo can take some getting used to but works well once you have, and checking the fuel level couldn’t be easier thanks to the fuel sight window on the TB30’s 1.3 gallon tank.
If you’re looking for a consistent, clean and even cut quality then the TB30 Troy-Bilt lawn tractor certainly doesn’t disappoint. The 30″ cutting deck has 5 cut height settings but we recommend using the two shortest settings with care as they can actually lower the blades enough to leave you with nothing but dirt. The three longer settings can leave you with a perfect lawn of almost golf-course quality, plus this mower also lets you cut in reverse too, which can speed things up nicely.
The only slight drawback we found with the Troy-Bilt TB30 is that it’s a little bit loud so if your neighbors are easily upset then this might not be the best mower for you.
Other than that, this is a very good riding lawn mower at a very reasonable price point. It cuts well, mulches well and turns on a dime, and its easy and comfortable to use, and easy to maintain Well worth checking out.
