We found the Husqvarna YTH20K42 riding lawn tractor to be a solidly built riding mower which is highly maneuverable and easy to store due to its compact design. It has a 42″ stamped cutting deck, which features 4 anti-scalp wheels, which do a very good job of preventing your lawn from being chewed up during turning, has a reinforced construction of heavy flat-stock steel.
This construction provides the 2 blade leading cutting edge and trim side some seriously improved strength and durability, and Husqvarna themselves actually call this feature “Armor Protection” and even back it up with a 10 year warranty.
The 6-position cutting deck also has a fender mounted manual belt engagement system which allows you to lower the cutting deck smoothly and gradually, unlike with an electric engagement system which can be pretty abrupt, causing damage to parts, and can also cause the belt drive to jump off.
One pretty impressive feature of this lawn tractor is its Air Induction Mowing Technology System which increases the air flow through and around the cutting deck by sucking clean air from the top and bottom of the deck which increases grass lift for a really great cut, while at the same time cutting down on any clumping for an even discharge of clippings.
This mowers 20HP Kohler 7000 Series V-Twin OHV Engine runs very smoothly and is also much quieter than you probably think when in use. It has a top forward speed of 5.2 mph, and you can also mow in reverse at a top speed of 2.9 mph, and has a ‘smart-choke’ for easy starting whatever the temperature, plus a dual adjustable seal air filter to keep dirt and debris from clogging up the engine.
The YTH20K42 also features a smooth and responsive pedal operated hydrostatic transmission making it longer lasting than mowers with automatic and manual transmissions, plus it also requires less maintenance and gives the user more driving control during mowing. It also has a best-in-class 18″ turning radius for greater maneuverability.
And for superior stability and balance, while mowing rougher terrain, this mower has a heavy cast front axle which pivots providing enhanced adaptability over lumps and bumps even when towing a trailer or collector.
The 13″ mid-back seat on this ride on tractor mower is pretty unique too, the platform automatically raises and lowers as the seat is moved either forward or backward to give you the perfect riding height and position for your frame.
There is also plenty of space in the cockpit making it easy to get in and out of, the choke, ignition and throttle are all together in one easy to reach place, and there is also an hour meter, LED headlights, a cruise control feature and even a cup holder, to make your ride as comfortable as possible.
As you would expect from a Husqvarna riding lawn tractor, the cut quality really is pretty fantastic. With Clear Cut Technology, the YTH20K42 makes really light work of both tall and wet grass, giving a clean and even cut every time, and is brilliant at getting rid of cut grass via the chute.
